Being a famous place to discover art, my expectations regarding the exhibitions and their compositions of the MOMA were pretty high. Having a lot of space to fill and to create a working exhibitions is always quite challenging and the MOMA managed - partly - to do well. In many rooms it felt like they relied on the artwork itself to create an inspiring and inviting environment and this is an outdated approach to stage an exhibition. At least the guiding information regarding each section was clearly visible and accessible. Truly immersive was the area dedicated to Joan Jonas art work and I was not surprised finding the same artist displayed at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, as well. So in the end, I understand why the MOMA is such a widely recognized institution for modern art and I enjoyed the presented artwork, but not much inspiration sparked in the end. There is still space for improvements regarding the composition.
